Interactive multimedia in primary schools (IMPS) The British Library-funded IMPS project, through classroom observation, literature review and the development of a descriptive framework, looked at issues that are important for teachers to consider when using or producing texts for children on CD-ROM. An important part of the project was to find out what children felt about using interactive multimedia in class, their views of the CDs they were using, and how to consider how aspects of screen design affect use and understanding of information. We also considered issues teachers face in terms of classroom management, and the kind of design features that might be helpful to them and the children they teach. The findings of the project are published in: Walker, S., Reynolds, L. and Edwards, V., Interactive Multimedia in Primary Schools, children's use and understanding of information texts on CD-ROM, and implications for teachers and designers, British Library Research and Innovation report 157, British Library Research and Innovation Centre, 1999.
