Testing typography in primary schools

Part I of the Typographic Design for Children project explored the effects of serif and sans serif typefaces, use of alternative characters and horizontal space.

This second part of the project addresses the following questions:

  • Are script and informal typefaces more or less effective than conventional typefaces in helping children to learn to read?
  • To what extent does variation in vertical space help or hinder children's reading development?
  • What typographic factors are important in the design of information books for children?
